WMC: December 2016
Heather Wells — running the London Marathon 2017 for MHA
Earlier in the year I applied to the MHA for their one and only place in the London Marathon! I have been selected to run for the MHA on 23rd April 2017 in this iconic Marathon. I feel very humble and honoured that they liked my bid and have given me the place. I recently went up to Derby to meet the lovely team who will support me.
Not only do I have to worry about the training to run 26.2 miles, including my nutrition and looking after my muscles to ensure I don't get injured. I need to raise as much money as I can for the MHA (I have set myself a target of £5,000 but dream that I will far exceed this). All in just under four months. Training starts in earnest on the first of January 2017.
I am planning to raise the money in several ways (apart from sponsorship) and I hope there will be something that you would like to join in.
During the four months prior to the marathon I am planning to visit as many MHA schemes as possible to fully understand their work and to meet some of the residents / users. During each visit I will challenge the people I meet to prepare an A4 page to include a recipe and pictures or photos or cartoons or ... which I will have printed up to be sold as a recipe book.
I have asked our stewards to judge the pages and award gold, silver and bronze to the winning pages. The winners will receive 10, 5 or 2 free copies of the recipe book, respectively.
I will launch my formal training program on December 27th with a breakfast run / walk or no run!! My running friends and I love to run at 8 o'clock in the morning followed by breakfast; and they would like to help me launch my training in this way. If you would like to join us in the church hall for a six mile run, a two and a half mile walk or just to chat and do a crossword or jigsaw I'd love to see you there.
Please watch the notice board for the final details. I am also planning to hold a Ceilidh in January and a cake stall where I work.
If anyone would like to help me to organise any of the above events or knows a printer who would like to sponsor the printing of the recipe books I'd love to hear from you.
On the 27th December I will put a sponsorship form on the noticeboard or you can sponsor me on my JustGiving page: Heather-Wells7 or I have a JustTextGiving number: please text MHAH78 to 70070 to give £5 to the MHA.
Yours very excited but nervous!!
